Hello, I’m Emily:
Visual note taker at your service.
I illustrate your conversations LIVE and make ideas visible.
What is Visual Note Taking?
Your conference, talk, meeting, panel or event deserves more than existing in a forgotten notebook or flip chart.
Visual notes are the answer! Sometimes called graphic recording, visual scribing or live illustration, visual note taking helps make information more accessible, memorable and easy to share.
As a visual note taker, I listen, draw and translate conversations into colourful illustrated summaries, combining pictures and words to make complex ideas easier to understand, remember and share.
I capture the key themes as they unfold, creating a visual record that can be revisited long after the conversation has ended. Not to mention, the resulting illustration is much easier to look at than the scribbled conference notes that lose all meaning a week after the event is over.
Why Hire a Visual Note Taker?
Ever attended a brilliant event, only to find you've forgotten half of what was discussed by the following week? Or maybe you’re planning an event and you want it to be memorable, rather than forgotten oncce the roll banners have come down and the coffee pots are away…
Hiring a visual note taker gives your conversations a lasting legacy. Rather than disappearing into notebooks or lengthy meeting minutes, your key messages live on as beautiful, colourful, engaging illustrations that people actually want to revisit.

Where can I use visual note taking?
Visual Note Taking for Meetings, Workshops & Conferences
Visual note taking has many applications. Here are some of the settings that benefit from visual note taking.
✱ Conferences & Events
Visual notes can capture keynote speeches, panel discussions and presentations as colourful pictorial summaries. These are ideal for sharing with delegates afterwards and extending the reach of your event to people who couldn’t attend.
✱ Research & Academic Events
Research is a fascinating area for visual notes. It can sometimes be hard to explain complex findings to a broad audience. Summaries combining image and text can help make research findings, ideas and academic discussions to life. They can be used in reports and communications. They also support applications for funding and settings where attention requires impact. Example applications include research symposiums, knowledge exchange events and public engagement activities.
✱ Workshops & Collaborative Meetings
I can help you capture brainstorming sessions, creative workshops and collaborative discussions as they happen. Visual notes help document different perspectives, highlight emerging themes and provide a useful reference for future planning.
✱ Community Engagement & Consultations
Pictorial notes can help communities gain their voice. From council consultations to charity workshops and public engagement events, visual summaries can communicate people's experiences, priorities and ideas in an engaging and accessible format. It helps people feel heard and gives attendees a method to easily explain findings with a broad audience.
✱ Online Meetings & Virtual Events
Wait, we don’t have to be in the same room!? This is true…with the power of technology I also offer remote visual note taking, joining online meetings, webinars and virtual conferences to capture discussions digitally. Get in touch if you’d like to discuss any of these options in more detail.
How does visual note taking work?
Before your event
Before the event I’ll schedule a Zoom call. We can chat about the main topics and agenda being covered and what you’d like to achieve with the finished artwork. I'll ask lots of questions so we can get the most out of the event on the day. Before the day we’ll have. quick chat or email about logistics such as registration and where I should sit.
On the day
All our pre planning means me joining your day will be smooth sailing. I work digitally and will come prepared with my setup. I’ll need a seat in view of the screen or stage but I can be out of sight of the attendees. It is also possible to live cast the notes as they unfold. Whichever works best for you. Other than that I’ll be in my quiet corner drawing as the discussions unfold.
After the event
I’ll ask you for feedback, take the drawings away to tweak and make sure they are on point. If you’d like to share them, immediately I can provide the files straight away. Otherwise a couple of days after you’re event you'll receive digital copies of the finished visual notes straight to your inbox and ready to share with attendees, use in newsletters, reports, presentations and socials.

Visual Note Taking FAQs
-
These days the terms are very much interchangeable. Visual note taking, graphic recording, visual scribing and live illustration are different names for very similar services. They all involve listening to conversations and translating key ideas into illustrations and words. One might lean more towards meetings than talks but in essence it’s ok to use whichever term you prefer :)
-
Yes! I can join your meeting, webinar or conference online and create illustrated notes as the conversation unfolds. Remote visual note taking is a great option for organisations working across different locations. The process is much the same and I still recommend meeting up beforehand to discuss the event and to run through a tech rehearsal.
-
Not necessarily! I have a background in engineering and illustration, so I'm comfortable exploring a wide range of subjects. Before your event, I'll ask for some background information, an agenda and any relevant materials to help me prepare. I love learning and grasp complex topics well. Married to a Dr I’ve osmosed my fair share of medical terminology too and am happy to tackle all kinds of subjects.

You'll receive a high resolution digital illustration that you can share with attendees, include in reports and presentations or publish on your website and social media. I can also provide a time lapse video showing how the illustration developed. These can all be created using your brand colours and logos.

The cost depends on the length and format of your event. I offer visual note taking for individual talks, half-day workshops and full-day conferences, both online and in person. Get in touch with a few details about your event and I'll happily put together a quote for you.

Sometimes it’s the topics we think of as ‘dry’ or ‘complicated’ that can benefit from visual note taking the most! Every topic deserves to be communicated well, and the ones that are sometimes the hardest to explain or tricky to engage with can often benefit hugely. Whatever your subject, get in touch and I’d be happy to talk it through with you. Have more questions? Book a call with me to explore the options.
